Kōwhai Park Tree Planting
Last Tuesday (28 May), Kahikatea (C6) went on a hikoi through Kōwhai Park to plant 562 native trees including: Nikau, Harakeke, Mānuka, Mahoe and Karamū. This is the third consecutive year our students have planted native trees as part of Warkworth School's involvement in the 'Adopt A Park' initiative, lead by Anna Baine, our Community Programmes Manager from Auckland Council.
Anna taught our students the benefits of their planting and the skills involved in planting well. Can your Year Six students talk to you about The Pukeko Test?
You may like to visit Kōwhai Park in the coming weeks to see a very high bridge being erected over the area in which we planted (a reserve just below Heritage Lane). This bridge will connect walkways from Kōwhai Park to the Park n Ride and Showgrounds. We hope that our students will be able to visit the park for years to come and continue to recognise and appreciate the difference they have made to our native flora and fauna environments.
