SPORT

 Sport

Teachers prepare learners for active participation in a range of sports by including the fundamental skills required for effective participation in team sports during their weekly physical education lessons.

Our sports coordinator, Mrs Nicole Callender, plans opportunities for learners to participate in individual and team sports and arranges for coaching and practices to take place. Often these are during the lunch break.

School sports are events in which all students participate (with the exception of swimming which is held in the Mahurangi College pool for Year 4 - 6 learners only).

Interschool sports are events in which selected students participate, generally those who are keen to participate, have attended practices, and in some cases, according to performance in school sports events.

Hibiscus Coast sports events are for sports enthusiasts who are skilful and ready to compete at a high level.

Houses

For our in-school sporting events, we have ‘house’ competitions, with our houses named after local islands:

  • Kawau (Red)

  • Hauturu (Yellow)

  • Tiritiri Matangi (Blue)

  • Motuora (Green)

Students are placed into houses on enrolment (siblings will be in the same house as each other) and are encouraged to wear their house colours on school sports days.

We also have some house t-shirts for sale at the senior office @ $20 each, subject to availability. See Uniform for more information.
